A student on our Gold Coast campus has been diagnosed with H1N1 Influenza A (Human Swine Influenza). We are working closely with Queensland Health's Gold Coast Population Health Unit, to implement appropriate infectious disease management procedures as usual.
The student's parents were passengers on a cruise ship, and the family are now in quarantine. The student's symptoms are relatively mild. The student has had limited contact with a very small number of students, and no contact with staff on the campus. The Gold Coast Population Health Unit is following up with those who did have contact with the student.
Queensland Health does not recommend closure or restriction of activities of any part of the University, and the University will continue to liaise closely with the Population Health Unit and cooperate fully with their requirements.
